Synopsis

Michaela Coel sets the table for a necessary conversation about the true nature of drugs, sex, rape, identity, friendship and the complex moral and psychological issues surrounding victims of sexual abuse. Raw, brilliantly written and fulled with daring performances by the complete cast, I MAY DESTROY YOU invites audiences to talk about it and take action.

Michaela Coel is a genius. The writing, the directing, honestly the whole thing had me riveted and emotional and I hope she wins some awards. Phenomenal work.

I have to admit I had made my mind about not watching the show, cause I was like as a woman why would I want to watch another woman suffer for 12 episodes? So for a few months I avoided it, and it wasn’t til a few days ago when the golden globes snubbed Michaela and the show and I saw a lot of online support and praise about her and what she created that I changed my mind about it! And I’m glad I did!! It was clever, respectful of women and victims, it was emotional, it made you think about the morality behind a lot of situations we see as common nowadays, it made you angry and made you want to hurt the man who hurt her, it made you feel and think a lot and that’s a good show! So this is a great show, something never done before (I found some similarities to Promising Young Woman, but I see both as sisters who are starting a new genre of women telling their truth and demanding justice) but what we see in the show honestly I’ve never seen it in any other, so yes I’m gonna dare and call it revolutionary.
