Michael Andrew Fox, dit Michael J. Fox, est un acteur, auteur, producteur et militant canado-américain né le 9 juin 1961 à Edmonton en Alberta.
Après s'être aguerri à la télévision canadienne, Michael J. Fox pose ses valises à Hollywood. D'emblée, il rencontre le succès avec la série télévisée Sacrée Famille. Mais c'est en 1985, avec le Retour vers le futur de Robert Zemeckis (et plus tard, ses deux suites), qu'il se révèle véritablement au niveau international.
Pour l'anecdote, l'acteur renonce dans un premier temps à incarner Martin "Marty" McFly, NBC refusant de le libérer de Sacrée Famille. Eric Stoltz le remplace mais sa sensibilité comique ne correspond pas aux attentes du réalisateur et de Steven Spielberg (producteur). Il est renvoyé au bout de cinq semaines de tournage. L'équipe parvient ensuite à trouver un accord avec NBC... Et Michael J. Fox doit alors retourner toutes les scènes de Stoltz... Tout en jouant dans Sacrée Famille !
