Trying so hard to be artsy it kills itself. I gave up after the third (or was it the fourth/fifth? I lost count) time jump in under 30 minutes where we are transported to Berlin ca 2010 where Munch shares a cab with a female August Strindberg.
[Göteborg FF '23] It must be recognized that the film avoids the conventional treatment of a biopic, but Edvard Munch's complex personality required another type of approach. Emulating Todd Haynes, it offers a polyhedral representation through three actors and one actress who delve into the artist's human condition. Irregular in the treatment from different periods, it succeeds in translating to a contemporary Berlin with expressionist skies his most creative stage, but somehow it neglects the objectification of his personality through his painting, which blows up the success of the proposal.
