There is something very recognizable in The Gridiron Gang: the intersection between sports, reform schools, and second chances. It is not a new story and the film does not aim to reinvent the genre, but it knows how to move within it with enough dignity. It is easy to watch and, above all, it connects if you are interested in this type of story where sport works as a lifeline. The film moves between harsh moments and others clearly designed to stir emotion, sometimes in a rather direct, even simplistic way. It is true that its idea of redemption can feel too quick or too comfortable, as if everything were solved thanks to the figure of the coach. Still, there is something honest in the attempt and in the way it looks at these kids trapped in a system that almost never plays in their favor. Dwayne Johnson is better than many might expect. Restrained, believable, and far from caricature, he carries much of the emotional weight of the story. He does not perform miracles as an actor, but he conveys closeness and conviction, which helps the film hold together when it falls into the usual sports-movie clichés. Not all the stories it raises end up fully landing, and some situations feel too schematic. Even so, the film leaves something behind. It makes you think, even if only in a simple way, and that is already more than many similar films manage to do. The Gridiron Gang is not a great film, but it is a correct experience, with good pacing and a clear message. Ideal for those who enjoy stories of personal growth with a social backdrop, even if they more or less know how everything is going to end.
Definitely not an Action Film.. Everything else is on point But a Great Film The Rocks Performance was Solid!!!!
A second grade football coach in a juvenile prison uses the sport to get the kids away fro the gangs and to teach them how to cope with the real world. While the movie seems a bit naive at times, the fact that it is based on a true story and that the movie does not claim that the story is the magical solution to all gang problems (but still for some), make it realistic and a good watch. Good entertainment that also gives some food for thought.
Made me think of Freedom Writer, must-watch!
Based on a true story - an absolutely stunning movie! Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson probably in his best role.
