Takayuki Hirao has been working for Ufotable for quite some time now and should have had the experience to not butcher Ito's original story. This adaptation pretty much reversals gender roles and shifts the fortunes of the main characters to throwaway side characters for what... making the girl the lead..? In addition to that a lot of the mystery aspects where trashed for full on action. This goes straight away to the mofo shark and mass attack instead of progressively increase the scope. Not even the visuals are up to the task so I can only recommend reading the manga which while not being perfect is still miles above this and features the lovely drawings of Junji Ito.

An ok film, but I did feel like it threatened to go really weird in parts. It was a little confusing why the fish would sometimes attack humans and sometimes not. There were one or two good moments but otherwise an ok experience.
