Like a child's oral report on World War 2, the amateurish oversimplification drains the gravity from the subject. This is the story of Algerians who fought on the French side in the Franco-Algerian war (1954-1962) and how these 'harkis' were abandoned by France when France fled Algeria after losing the conflict. The French politicians basically delivered the Algerian soldiers who fought for them into the hands of the Algerian revolutionaries. Les Harkis treats this complex subject with little subtilty and so, in a much smaller sense, continues to do a disservice to the Algerians who believed they were fighting for the right cause.
