>*"The family that slays together, stays together."* A must-watch for big fans of the franchise! Filled with behind the scenes moments, fun facts about every movie entry in the franchise, emotional interviews with the people involved and a look at the big family that is the Chucky fandom. Some of the information mentioned was stuff I already knew but I learned a lot too. A very genuine and emotional documentary.
this was sweet. some of the extended moments recapping the movies got to be boring after awhile (babes, i promise if someone is watching this they've seen the movies 800 times now) and there's not a ton of exciting behind the scenes tidbits or anything of the sort but if any horror license was going to be able to pull off such a borderline sappy doc focusing on the connection between people involved and in the periphery of the series at large it would be Child's Play/Chucky. honestly wish this came after instead of before the tv series so some of that could've been included more too. this makes me want to sit down with Doc of Chucky but i'll do that after revisiting the series first. (still need to sit down with my 4ks of Bride - Cult, oop.)
Living with Chucky offers a unique peek behind the scenes of the infamous "Chucky" franchise, focusing on the families involved in creating these iconic horror films. The documentary shines a light on the children of the crew members who grew up on the sets, eventually finding their way into the filmmaking process themselves. This personal angle is compelling, showing the unique bond and challenges faced by families entrenched in the horror genre. However, the film broadens its scope to cover a wide range of topics, from the history of the "Chucky" movies to fan conventions. This attempt to cover so much ground results in a somewhat disjointed narrative. The film could have been more impactful by staying focused on the family dynamics and the sacrifices made by those involved in the horror industry. "Living with Chucky" has an interesting take on the traditional behind the scenes documentary of film making, but attempts to do too much and loses it's way. For a more in-depth exploration of the "Chucky" franchise, fans might prefer "Doc of Chucky," which provides a deeper dive into the making of the films.
It’s called Living With Chucky and I knew going in that there was an element of the the film that covered the filmmaker’s father being involved with the franchise and what that meant for her growing up. Surprisingly that doesn’t come up until about an hour in after a pretty basic rundown of the franchise as a whole, so everything feels completely disjointed and weird. A better filmmaker would have figured out how to weave it all together in a more coherent and interesting project.
