This can be considered the first successful produced movie (i know there have been others before, but not with just over 1 million dollars as a budget) entirely funded through crowd-funding (donations from people over the internet). I suspect that over the years we will see more of these movies, with larger and larger budgets acquired through donations made by people. Since part of the profits go back to the people who gave the money it could be a very lucrative business and good investment opportunity. But i guess it all depends on how good the movie eventually will do.
