>"Trudy is a very gifted athlete." "Does she bake? We'd love to get a picture of her in the kitchen with a pie." According to Jerry Bruckheimer, this movie was moved from Disney+ to theatrical after it tested higher with audiences than any other movie he's produced. After seeing it, I understand why. "Young Woman" is an inspiring and (mostly) true story with a great cast of characters, anchored (buoyed? propelled?) by Daisy Ridley's incredible charisma. I fell in love with Meg and Trudy immediately, and I was surprised at how invested I became by the end. I laughed, I cried, I ran straight to Spotify to find the soundtrack. Ultimately, this is a story of overcoming adversity, which we can all relate to in our own way. It's a real pity no one will see this in theaters (if my empty showing is any indication). Also, how tf is Daisy Ridley not a bigger star.
I'm a sucker for movies like this. I will watch them no matter what people say about their "production quality". But, this one was made brilliantly. Daisy Ridley was the prefect choice to play the main character. I never knew the story of Gertrude Ederle before today. After watching this, I will never forget it. When I need a refresher, I will watch this movie again.
This is an exceptional film about an incredible achievement. I didn‘t know anything about Trudy Edele so seeing the film was very entertaining and exciting. The cinematography and the visuals are absolutely stunning and the score is beautiful. I really enjoyed watching this film and I would recommend it to anyone.
This was a pleasant surprise. It didn't drag, it was wonderfully acted and the set dressIng,locations and CGI were all really well done. One of my favs for the year.
A TV movie with all the clichés of a sport story. Some moments reminded me of Nyad (the climax is literally same). There are so many eye roll inducing 'inspirational' lines (the little girl thanking Trudy for paving the way was just too much). But I have to admit that even a cynical bastard like myself got teary-eyed during the fires scenes. And the epilogue.
