The Weather Man is an interesting character piece that delves into a man's mid-life crisis when his focus should be on mending his fractured family life. Nicolas Cage delivers a familiar performance in a style that should resonate well with fans of his more introspective and dramatic roles.
The Weather Man is a melancholy and somber character drama from director Gore Verbinski. The story follows a local television weatherman as he tries to win his father’s respect and put his family back together. Nicolas Cage gives a strong performance and is joined by Michael Caine and Hope Davis. However, the story is a bit disjoined and the characters are somewhat aloof. The tone of the film is also problematic, as some of the dark humor comes off as cold and depressing. While it’s an interesting and provocative film, The Weather Man is ultimately unsatisfying.
