Synopsis
Jeff Bailey, ancien détective privé, tente de vivre une vie paisible, mais son passé revient le hanter. Il fut jadis embauché par un joueur de casino pour retrouver sa petite amie en fugue, Kathy. Jeff l'avait retrouvée au Mexique et en était tombé amoureux. Elle l'avait ensuite incité à doubler le joueur, mais c'est bien Jeff qui a fini par se faire doubler. Des années plus tard, la vie tranquille de Jeff est de nouveau bouleversée lorsque ses anciens associés criminels le retrouvent. Il court un grand danger : quelqu'un tente de lui mettre un meurtre sur le dos.

Great film with Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas

This movie has been high on my list for a while now, and it did not disappoint. This film noir was downright dirty–it was seedy, it was dark. It featured a really fine performance from Robert Mitchum, marked by this casual sense of insouciance that was almost unsettling. But even better was the performance by Jane Greer, playing what might be my favorite femme fatale. Really exquisite cinematography throughout. The movie was a touch overlong, but was a real joy to watch and will be one I return to in the future.

A classic crime triller from the 1950s with Mitchum and Douglas. For my taste, there are a few too many characters in the story and it is, in the end, classic, without major surprises. Therefore, I like it as a what it is: a solid 1950s crime movie. No more, no less.

A nice film featuring the great Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas. A good film noir with romance thrown in. This film keeps you on your toes with many twists and turns. A great watch.
