Tess Harper and Detective O’Connor cross paths a third time in _Crossword Mysteries: Abracadaver_. While attending a magic show on her birthday, Tess witnesses the magician killed on stage in an apparent tick gone wrong, but she soon discovers that things aren’t as they appear. The writers do a good job at using the magic motif and at incorporating the principles of illusion into the murder mystery. Also, guest stars Noam Jenkins and Kaitlyn Leeb give strong performances and make for interesting characters. Still, the mystery wraps up a little too quickly in the last few minutes of the film, and the magic shows are a bit lackluster. Yet while it has its flaws, _Avbradaver_ is the best entry in the series so far.
