This is essentially two movies in one. Pitt has to perform the classic "one last job", whereas the other half of the movie is a "buddy" road trip movie. _The Mexican_ is a fun romantic-comedy from director Gore Verbinski. The story follows Jerry Welbach who is forced to go to Mexico to bring back an antic pistol in order payoff his debt to a mob boss; meanwhile a hitman abducts Jerry's girlfriend and holds her hostage to ensure Jerry completes the job. Starring Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, James Gandolfini, and J.K. Simmons, the film features an impressive cast. And, the comedy is well-written and delivers some good laughs. However, the plot is a mess and has a number of superfluous elements that don't work. Yet despite its flaws, overall _The Mexican_ is an entertaining film.
