A History of Violence was an interesting movie. I found the plot intriguing and it was superbly directed and acted. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it though. My only real complaint is that the scenes with the older son seemed awkward and just inserted for the sake of it at first, but even that ended up serving a purpose later on, though it did ruin my suspension of disbelief earlier on. Besides that, the pacing was really well-done, Mortensen’s fantastic and the violence was thrilling. All the parts of the film work really well and it definitely raises some interesting questions but... I don't know. I guess I'm still sort of mulling it over.
I’ve always thought this film was a little short and could been more to it but still it’s a well made film with a super performance from Aragon... I mean Viggo
The buildup was great but the ending finished quickly , his brother was a gangster right ,a gangster with only 3 or 4 body guards , and when he got a chance didn't killed him lol
I may have watched this with unduly high expectations given the talent involved but I found the film superficial and at times quite juvenile; to the point it shocked me how much I disliked it. The performances are good but not great until the hospital scene; at which point the bad writing overtakes any effort the actors put forth. The finale at the Brother's house felt like the film was taking the piss out of anybody that was looking for a serious film with some dramatic weight behind it. A disdain for the audience; even if it's just perceived is not an enjoyable trait in anything. I knocked another star off while writing the review, so this thing really must have bothered me.
Not sure what it is about this movie.. but I love it! Watched it like 50 times... It's hit or miss with most people.
