Just watched 37 Seconds (2019) directed by Hikari and I was completely blown away. Yuma is an aspiring manga artist with cerebral palsy dealing with a coworker who is taking advantage of her and an over protective mother. This film does an amazing job taking you on her journey of self discovery as she cuts the cords to those who are keeping her down.
Japanauary2025 Film #5 - 37 Seconds (2019) This was such a great film. It was raw, honest, and did not shy away from the difficult or painful moments of Yuma or her Mother’s struggle as Yuma tries to find herself, love herself, free herself self from her overprotective mother. And through the journey Yuma takes you see the transformation of Yuma, her mother, and some of those around her. She also comes to understand and realize the sacrifices and the love her Mother has for her. This is may not be a movie for younger teens as it deals at points with sex and how a physical disability may impact that… or how people may treat people with disabilities differently. This was a great film done with care and thoughtfulness - I would highly recommend it.
