This is an excellent documentary that shows that Fake News does in fact go both ways, and that both amateur and professional journalism can fall victim to it. Much of this documentary analyzes not just whether news is factually correct or not, but instead takes a deep look into the kinds of people that get labeled as fake news by mainstream media companies and why this term became weaponized. Utilizing interviews conducted with some of the most controversial modern "alternative media" names, this documentary attempts to get down to the root of the issue... Who is fake news? And it exceeds every expectation as it succeeds in drawing in the viewer.

I like the idea of this doc: showing how each side manipulates the media, mostly for ratings, and how it affects the populace. But I don't think it was balanced enough, focusing a lot on liberal (CNN, MSNBC) bias and only pointing out conservative manipulation when it's particularly sensational (Pizzagate). Plus it gives a platform to people like Alex Jones, Gavin McInnes, and Jordan Peterson without contextualizing them: right wing conspiracist, white supremacist, and manosphere sad boy, respectively.

I think it is an interesting topic with some interesting insights. Having said that, some of the “actors” I am aware of (e.g. Stefan Molyneux) and have some not so positive opinions about them based on the content they have put out. At the end of the day I think it asks some interesting questions and people should reflect more on the reality presented to them by the media and general consensus, but in parts it really does feel a bit like “woe me” by some of the actors in this (e.g. Jones). Worth a watch, but as with all the media: Stay critical. That’s probably the best message you can take away from this.
