Book adaptation done amazingly well! So, read the book, and watch the movie! But be sure to bring tissues. You'll need them.

A Japanese movie based on a Japanese book about a man who adopts a cat and saves it from a car accident years later; he tries to find someone to adopt it in the face of changing circumstances. Honestly, it's kind of hard for me to rate this movie. When you have voiced animals in western cinema its in kids' movies. And no one ever thinks its good. Also, this movie is almost 2 hours long. WHY?! They could cut all of the flashbacks and have the very talented actors just discuss the moments but they decided instead to make every, _oh, do you remember?_ moment into a flashback. Does the cat's voice acting actually contribute anything to the movie? The audience laughed and cried but the cat having a voice was SO jarring and completely ruined any emotional scene for me personally. The music was actually kind of bad. Music is there to not be noticed, but to give ambience to a scene. The child actors are not very good, but the adult actors are good. You need to suspend your disbelieve in seeing Satoru as a high schooler despite the fact they don't give him any makeup or change anything except his clothes. Or that his Aunt adopted him as a kid and didn't age in 20 years.
