Not expecting a spin off movie for the side character to hit hard like this.. Not only that, it was poetic too with all the symbolism from Liz and the blue bird. Good job KyoAni!!
Watched this without knowing it was a spin off. Still it did really well as a stand alone, I never felt like I needed prior info for the story. 9.2/10
I watched this without any idea that it was related to the “Sound! Euphonium” series. Rather, I had found the movie based on a love for some of the director’s other works (A Silent Voice). The film had a very atmospheric and intangible quality to it. Like a melody that is floating on the wind, but without much blowing in any one direction. Regardless, it did a fine job of representing the themes that it set out to deliver. There was arguably a limited amount of plot, with the only “direction” being the idea that real life should mimic the fairy tale. I enjoyed being brought along for the ride. The music and animation was top notch, and being a previous band student myself, I could really feel the bonds that they forge, bend, and sometimes break.
