This movie is a great example that the best stories are written by LIFE itself! It may look like a simple action movie, but this is nothing to watch together with Popcorn or Pizza! Gerald Butler delivered a stunning performance - and I am surprised that he didn't get multiple awards for this. I think it's phenomenal how the two worlds (Pennsylvania & Sudan) were portrayed - on one side wealth & on the other side suffering. I loved the scene were the camera takes a slow swing over the cooling shelf (in a supermarket) and then skip to Africa showing death and destruction - if that doesn't get you thinking... I don't know. To me it is unbelievable this is based on a true story! It is moving, but also shocking - it has very little good funny moments, but is also engaging & dead serious. "Machine Gun Preacher" is one of only a few screenings that left me speechless & easily is in my top 50. This should be an inspiration for us all. "One man can make a difference!"

Though partly fictionalised, the movie tells in essence the real story of Sam Childers and his efforts to save the children who are victims of terrorism in Sudan. The movie does show parts of the atrocities committed in Sudan in particular, though it does not nearly show all the atrocities committed. The movie also shows the unwillingness of the rich Western countries to help those people, thus revealing the value we attribute to African lives … A shame. A good movie about a good man that deserves more attention and support, respectively more people following his example.
