I finally watched Miss Saigon and I found it to be quite disappointing. The performance were good. Some of the songs were great and well deserve their classic status. (Some of the sing/talk were cringy.) The cultural insensitivity and inaccuracies were through the roof. I wonder if French people feel the same about Les Miserables? I read that they corrected the fake wedding lyrics with proper Vietnamese lyrics in later productions. I look forward to seeing that version.
I have always been a fan of Miss Saigon and never made it to a show after they stopped producing it in Europe. Now I finally had the chance to see this live recording and I just love it. The cast was amazing and everything was really well made. The story is so powerful and they really managed to catch it in this production. Of course the more than beautiful music does help a lot!
