Universal gets back to basics in the third and final Creature film, _The Creature Walks Among Us_. When the Gill Man is spotted in the Everglades a team of scientists mount an expedition to find him and perform surgery on him to allow him to breathe air when his gills are damaged. The film does a pretty good job at recapturing the tension and suspense of hunting the Gill Man that the original had, and gets back to exploring the evolutionary questions about him. However, it’s fairly obvious that most of the Gill Man water footage is alternative or reused footage from the first film. Also, all the science talk can be a little monotonous and hard to follow. Yet while it has a few problems, _The Creature Walks Among Us_ is an entertaining thriller that provides a nice conclusion to the trilogy.
First act was still good, but then they had to take the gills out of the Gill Man. Ugh. Find my full review at https://www.otherworldlyculture.com/archives/5705
It's a bit up and down, but all in all 'The Creature Walks Among Us' is a film I'd consider as 'good'. It, for me, definitively improves upon predecessor 'Revenge of the Creature', despite a few parts I didn't like as much as other bits. The stuff with the Gill-man is actually really good, especially towards the end. Despite that, the filmmakers seemed to prefer showing the humans - whose story didn't interest me on anything other than a base level. It needed more creature, in short. Rex Reason is the only cast member I immediately remember, even minutes after watching. Leigh Snowden is serviceable, while Jeff Morrow at least plays his sorta character well enough - given I disliked him. Ricou Browning is the only main cast member to appear in all three times; as underwater Gill-man, of course. The better sequel, though neither come all that close to the fab original.
What happened to Gill Man's great masks and costume design in this one? He looks like a ridiculous bank robber in a cheap 3 dollar Halloween mask
