Wow, Albert Finney is a knockout here. Brutal, coarse, ragged performance. Feels like a new wave of British film coming, after my exposure in the 40s/50s of Powell/Pressburger and Ealing comedies. Very strong stylistically, even if the plot isn't all that interesting.
