A lovingly and loving put-together documentary about one of the main experimentalists of the 20th century, Alex Winter's crowdsourced a humongous amount of material for this documentary. Zappa released around 60 albums when he was alive and around 50 have posthumously been released by the Zappa family. He broke boundaries all over, made friends, love, and loads of extremely exciting and upsetting music. Alice Cooper says a lot of good stuff in the documentary, as does Steve Vai and others. It's lovely to hear some of his modernistic and orchestral stuff shine, as with the piano-and-drums version of 'Black Page' as performed by two of his former musicians. There's a lot of archival footage here. A heaven's gate to his music, for sure.
