The second one in Kobayashi trilogy of the Human Condition. It’s the shortest of the three but yet its clocks around close to 3 hours. The film reminds me of the Japanese version of Full Metal Jacket as there are similarities between the two films but it’s most likely just coincidental. As with first film, the acting, camera work, scenery, and score of Chuji Kinoshita are all amazing. Still feel bad for that guy who ended up unalive himself.
Close to Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, the combat sequence is very well made, with a significant portion of the budget going into it—astonishing for a 1960s movie. The actors are fantastic, and the entire film is emotionally intense.
