I was really enjoying this movie, but that last scene was horrible! I was going to give this an 8, but the last 10 seconds of the movie dropped it a whole star for me.

Well I enjoyed this film, It's cast, and comedy flow was just right, the ending was predictable but lovely. All around good.

Becomes overcomplicated near the end, but for the most part Maggie's plan is well executed, funny and smart, with some great acting from a talented cast.

I am a huge Woody Allen fan. This isn't an Allen movie, but it may as well be. This is an indie romance starring Greta Gerwig, if that means nothing to you, move on. Simply put, this is a love story that would be too messy for a mainstream audience. There are moments of humor, but this is mostly a light drama where we follow Maggie, John, and Georgette. The titular Maggie is played by Gerwig, and she's a cool hipster chick - I know, right! Who would have thought Greta would be right for that part?! I love Gerwig, I would watch her in anything. Even though the movie is well paced, it does spend a little too much time with the other characters. I get that there is a larger story being told, but I am here for Maggie. This is not a minor complaint either; I really feel as if this was miscast, mainly Gerwig who feels like the odd gear grinding against the others. Like, everyone else needs to go or she does, and I am not kicking out Greta, so bye to everyone else. My only other problem was the end: look, it's a love story, and I love a happy ending, but the ending is just too convenient, too predictable, too saccharine mainstream garbage; at least it has the decency to wrap it up early. We get it. Anyway! I do recommend this to fans of romance movies. I would, however, advise that Gerwig fans tread lightly. Sure, she's playing the same adorable hipster darling she always plays, but she just doesn't fit inside this world. Lastly, Kathleen Hanna makes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo. I couldn't believe my eyes at first, but sure enough, it's her.
