A very sweet film with a very good message. Remain positive...

A charming film. 'Pollyanna' features a nice story about a young girl who changes the feeling around a small town. It's cool watching the endearing Pollyanna slowly improve everyone around her. The titular character is played by Hayley Mills, who may not give the most incredible performance you've seen but she does an excellent job in the role itself - she's instantly affable. I love the casting in general, each member is perfect for their respective roles. Jane Wyman is great as Polly, while Richard Egan (Edmond), Karl Malden (Rev. Ford), Agnes Moorehead (Mrs. Snow), Adolphe Menjou (Mr. Pendergast) and Nancy Olson (Nancy) all add goodness too. Heck, even Kevin Corcoran (Jimmy) is alright. There are, however, things that hold it back and stop me from rating it a notch higher. I don't like how they portray Wyman's Polly throughout, they act as if she's some sort of heartless dictator when she's really only too stern. I never felt negative feelings towards her, despite the film seemingly attempting to make me have some. Another con is the run time, which is too long considering how light the, admittedly pleasant, premise is. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed this.

The world could use more gladness.
