What a rollercoaster from start to finish. I've never visited LA, but hearing all the stories about it being a grimey, fake-fascia of a city really comes through in this. The use of iPhones give it a very personal, amateur vibe that sings so well with the city being captured and the messages being sent.

>*"Bitch, I cannot do this, this is too much drama."* Another banger from Sean Baker! Pretty equal with *Starlet*, can't even pick a favorite. ***Tangerine*** is a raw and emotional slice of life about transwomen of colour and the importance of friendship. The community they live in and the characters were fascinating to me, what I love is that both are flawed and complex. The characters are easy to get attached to, the drama is intense, the comedy is hilarious and it has an emotional core. Great performances. The dialogue is very fast and intense, I had to get a version with subtitles. Sin-Dee talks too damn fast. Despite the low budget and the fact that this was probably filmed on a cellphone it's a good-looking movie. The song and score choices are such a mess but it's a good mess I think. Never heard explosive club music right after a classical orchestra before but it kinda works. Favorite moment is Alexandra singing in the bar, the lyrics to the first song are so damn powerful I had tears in my eyes. Perfect ending also, very emotional.

Well this was a interesting movie. Very low budget and very trashy, but with a very artsy undertone. This movie is a great example of the brokenness of a city like LA, and the broken down life’s of the people that life on the streets out there, and them being products of their environment.

It’s trashy and wild, but in a good way. It’d be really easy to make a film like this super obvious and lowbrow, but the movie is in good hands with Sean Baker at the helm. The lo-fi aesthetic and music complement the vibe quite nicely (though I thought the mix a little too loud and abrasive at points). It’s really funny, most of the jokes are sharp and the lead actresses are great. Not all the bits landed or felt equally as interesting for me, for example the first half feels a little disjointed and I didn’t care that much about the subplot with the taxi driver. It does really show Sean Baker’s strengths as a filmmaker though, none of the characters are judged in obvious ways he shows compassion for all of them, even if they’re all flawed. 6.5/10

**A hilariously trashy, non-stop frenzied affair!** The dialogue in this is fantastically natural. Every shots gritty quality magnifies the seedy late-night atmosphere of every moment. Loved it. >Alexandra: “I ain’t no motherfucking drag queen! I’m losing sympathy for you by the minute.”
