My least favorite of the 1933 Busby trilogy. Cagney here didn't work for me--he has a manic intensity that I find sometimes hard to follow. It's screwball, I know, but ramped up to an 11 in a way that sticks out like a sore thumb from the other Berkley regulars. Joan Blondell does a great job (she's amazing, always) in keeping up, but Cagney lost me. The "waterfall" number was a banger, but "Shanghai Lil" and especially "Honeymoon Hotel" were both duds.
Highlights of the film including the consensus that a "Slaves of Old Africa" dance number in blackface is a good idea and the closing ensemble of yellowface "Shanghai Lil".
