Visceral realism in this film.

There are some wonderful scenes in it, and strong acting, but unfortunately the story is rather messy so it is often not entirely clear what exactly is going on. That's a shame, especially since Lucía Puenzo's XXY, with the same lead actress Inés Efrón, is such a masterpiece compared to this one, which is surely worth seeing.
