Still holds up after nearly 40 years. A classic time travel story with a twist.

Overrated for me. Typical of its time with a fish out of water theme, and with a repetitive message about society not progressing and being destructive. It just looks so ridiculous to be taken seriously. Not an awful movie. Just not my cup of tea.

This is a good variation of the classic H.G. Wells “The Time Machine” subject. To my pleasant surprise, this movie still works in 2026, which is certainly not the case for many other movies of that time. One must ignore the rather cheap special effects, even for the time. But that is easy, given that it is not the focus of the movie. The story is good and the acting is excellent for this type of movie. Still very good entertainment not to miss by fans of the genre.

“Time After Time” is an entertaining time travel adventure with a humorous tone and a few more serious elements. Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen have good chemistry, and the narrative flows well. Overall, however, I found the film a bit inconsequential. Jack the Ripper could have been given a few more scenes as the antagonist to make him seem more threatening. And the ending seems a bit old-fashioned for my taste. Nonetheless, “Time After Time” is definitely worth watching.
