Synopsis
Agnieszka est persuadée que son idée est la bonne : réaliser un reportage sur Mateusz Birkut, ce jeune maçon devenu héros national dans les années 50, dont elle a retrouvé une statue abandonnée. Son directeur d'études tente de la dissuader, mais la jeune femme s'obstine et finit par découvrir le dessous des cartes. Un cinéaste réputé, Burski, lui raconte comment Birkut a conquis sa gloire, en posant 30 000 briques en une journée. D'autres témoins, elle apprend que son exploit lui a valu la haine d'autres ouvriers...

Propulsive, angry filmmaking that doesn't slow down throughout its (quite long) runtime. I loved the editing and the score, and would want to revisit this again in the future.

Wajda filmed Man of Iron, a follow-up to Man of Marble, which depicts Maciej's subsequent involvement in the Polish anti-Communist workers' movement. Man of Iron extensively deals with Mateusz's killing in the clashes of 1970.
