Synopsis
Une scène au jardin de Roundhay est un essai de film, tenté en 1888 par l'inventeur français Louis Le Prince. Ne comportant que des photographies fixes obtenues par un procédé de chronophotographie, cette tentative n'a jamais pu être visionnée en mouvement. En 1930, les photographies ont été reproduites sur film 35 mm par le procédé du banc-titre, reconstituant ainsi le mouvement que Le Prince n'avait pas réussi à voir. Le titre lui a été donné à cette époque, aucun titre proposé par Le Prince n'ayant été retrouvé avec les photographies. Il est parfois considéré, rétrospectivement, comme le premier film à avoir été tourné.

Some interesting things to know: On October 24, 1888 (ten days after filming), Mrs. Sarah Whitley (Louis's mother-in-law) died at the age of 72. On September 16, 1890, Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince mysteriously vanished just before unveiling his new technology to the public. Neither his body nor luggage was found. In 1902, two years after Adolphe Le Prince (Louis's son) had testified about his father's inventions in court against Thomas Edison. H was found shot dead on Fire Island, New York. This is the second known film document, filmed in the garden of Le Prince House at Oakwood Grange in Roundhay, Leeds (UK). Since I was born and raised in Leeds, I’m proud of this film history piece.
