A must-watch for anyone. The story is still applicable with all the racial profiling nowadays. Especially, but not only, in the USA. The movie is beautifully done and gives hope.

Great movie and must watch for everyone!

A poignant film that should be seen by many. "Freedom Writers" is the kind of film that makes you think about our society. The main character, Mrs Gruwell, is the kind of person who still gives you hope in humanity. And you can understand her annoyance when you see the people around her! The pupils are all very endearing and you really feel their distress despite their strong shells. Unfortunately, this film will always be a topical one, reflecting the problems we have had and will probably continue to have. This film puts the spotlight on tolerance, respect for others and honesty, and for good reason.

I hate giving emotionally manipulative movies a high rating, but this one deserves it. A dramatisation based on an actual story, this showed a teacher recognising the potential in a group of students challenged by the socioeoconomics. And although based on events over 20 years ago, it is just emotion today as we watch inequality increased by covid19. It reminds us that there are people in our systems. All backed up with some solid performances - all the kids showed they could go onto great careers, Swank was consistently caring but out of place, and there was great support from Glenn and Staunton. So sit back, enjoy, and be prepared to cover some unexpected eye irritations as you watch. Recommended
