Just a great family- classic from the 90s. I was extremely fascinated by the film as a kid and loved orca whales since then. For sure the real story behind the orca Keiko who played Willy in the film didn‘t end like the movie unfortunately and it is really sad that there are still approximately 60 orcas living in captivity across the world. So the important message is really to never support any amusement parks (like SeaWorld) that have Orcas in captivity.

Honestly the whole mix of using animatronic and real whale is pretty impressive for the time and that animatronic is still convincing 30 years later. Jason James Richter did a good job playing on his role, and didn’t expect to see Danielle Harris in this film. Basil Poledouris score is really good and the Michael Jackson song in end same thing. The ending climax scene is forever going to be one of the most memorable moment from Free Willy, reading the behind the scenes of it is interesting.

Cute as, touching viewing this - impossible not to care for Monsieur Willy. It’s a very simple flick but one that executes its story supremely well. I’m pretty sure this is one of the first films I ever saw, I remember my mum video taped this - and 1996’s ‘Twister’ - off the tele for me when I was a wee young lad. I haven’t watched it since those rather ancient days, but did still remember the key bits. Jason James Richter is good in this, as are the likes of Lori Petty and August Schellenberg; Mykelti Williamson too, albeit in a smaller capacity. Enjoy your freedom, Wills! Or not (?), given they made three follow-ups. Who knew?!

Watched this again after god knows how many years. The nostalgia hit me hard! The opening theme alone was enough to bring back a mountain of feelings from my childhood. I absolutely loved this movie when I was younger and I still think it is good and moving. I can now see the flaws that it has more, but I don’t mind, this movie is a classic.
