Chevy Chase is back for more misadventures in the hilarious comedy _Fletch Lives_. After inheriting his great aunt’s estate in Mississippi, Fletch is framed for murder and has to uncover who’s behind it. Once again Chase delivers a great performance; though the character is a bit less edgy than in the previous film. And, the sketches aren’t as organic; coming off as rather broad and cartoonish. Still, the comedy’s really good and the mystery’s engaging. _Fletch Lives_ is a lot fun and is full of laughs, but it doesn’t have as good a story as the original.
I really enjoyed it, good performance from chevy and a good sense of humor, need to watch more from him from his early years. I thought the first one was better tho but not by far, definitely a better story in the first one but this one had more laughs for me, both fun films to watch. I love the sound track, hollywood, please bring back sounds tracks like this!
I’m not sure why the dream sequences are always racist. The first film Fletch (Chevy Chase) dreamt he had an Afro playing basketball. In this one, he is a slave owner. Even though the slaves are all white in his dream. It feels racist. Except when Fletch inherits his Aunt’s house. He meets Calculus (Cleavon Little) who can’t wait to serve Fletch. Which is yes, racist. The main story is decent but the first film is better. Since the whole thing is about him being a reporter. This time he quit his job and was framed for murder. Chevy Chase at least remains in good form. Fletch Lives is basically Funny Farm but with a mystery.
