A French dark psychosexual comedy that is quite enjoyable in a strange way with a pure balls out performance by Vincent Cassel. This is another title that's leaving Shudder this month and I've been meaning to watch this for years. Although it's not as hardcore as some of the French horror of the same era, it is still uncomfortable, twisted and funny. It seems like your typical hillbillies/backwoods horror at first, but this film takes the basic premise in a very unique direction, making it a terrific and truly unique experience. Probably a film I would only recommend to a few people because the comedy might turn some people off, but I personally enjoyed it. Did I mention this is a Christmas horror too?
Stupid. Frustrating. Extremely annoying characters. Flawed and gaps in the narrative. But damn it was entertaining.
As a french person, I enjoyed Vincent Cassel having fun in a wild, manic performance. Le Manson if you will. It's silly, violent, and very French. An acquired taste, I guess (see: other very violent french horror movies).
