It is not even scary. The story is more like modification of older horror stories, bringing cursed item back home and get possessed. You can safely pass this one, wasting time.
The Curse of the Necklace is a bad film, and truly bad at that. Not the kind of bad that at least has some madness, a memorably ridiculous scene or a bit of accidental charm. It is worse than that: a flat, tired horror film, full of clichés and without a single idea strong enough to lift it. A simple premise can work if there is atmosphere, tension or at least one well-built scare. Here, almost everything feels recycled from better films. The story of a cursed object, a broken family, children seeing things, a guilty father, a house full of shadows and textbook scares could have worked if there had been any personality. But the film moves forward as if it were ticking off a checklist of the most routine supernatural horror obligations. Nothing surprises, nothing truly unsettles, and almost everything arrives exactly when you expect it to arrive. The worst part is that it does not even manage to be enjoyable as trash. It is too serious to be camp, too clumsy to be scary and too generic to be interesting. Some moments are clearly meant to be disturbing, but the staging has no force. Others are supposed to carry emotional weight through the family drama, but the characters are so lifeless that it is hard to care about what happens to them. The cast, at least, tries to hold something together. The McGraw sisters have presence, and Henry Thomas naturally brings a certain sympathy because of everything he carries as a familiar face from fantasy cinema. But even they cannot do much with such a weak script. The film gives them worn-out situations, unnatural dialogue and a supernatural threat that never feels genuinely frightening. There is also a serious tonal problem. The Curse of the Necklace wants to feel like a classic haunted-house and family-possession horror film, but it has no elegance, no tension and no visual imagination. Everything is dull, repetitive and predictable. It is supposed to be scary; instead, it becomes tiring. And when a horror film does not scare, does not intrigue and does not even entertain, the result is very poor. The idea of the cursed necklace could have worked as a small, entertaining B-movie. But there is no spark here, no bite, no atmosphere. Just a succession of scenes we have already seen, weak scares and the constant feeling that time is being wasted. A real dud.
To be honest, the whole plot is quite cliché, and I feel like I’ve seen something similar before (though, blame my short memory—I can’t seem to remember which one). But if you appreciate the sweetness of sibling bonding, this film offers just the right amount, and you may find it quite heartwarming. I wouldn't, however, rewatch this one.
Megan kid + black phone kid = crappy horror movie
Good enough for me, good watch
