Surprisingly dark, spectacular animation and a decent story.
The reason I wanted to see this was to see some dark twisted fantasy about ragdolls living in a postapocalyptic setting, fighting for their lives. And that's what I got: visually stunning, beautiful grim environment, some nice action moments and a rather superficial story to tie it all together. The story moves pretty slow, almost to the point of boring, but the better parts made me deal with it and enjoy it all in all . Glad I saw it, won't be watching again, but sure hope there will be more 'dark' animated movies.
A good movie with an interesting and engaging story that makes us want to understand how that world reached its current state and what the consequences of our actions were. It's great to see this kind of deeper animation, which helps combat the prejudice that animation is only for children, without resorting to unnecessary violence, as animation is just a visual style. In short, for those seeking a heavier and more reflective story, I recommend watching it.
While the movie's visuals were very attractive and there was some creative scenery and beasts on screen the story itself was mostly a mess. And maybe not so much a mess as boring. The burlap creatures weren't very interesting. They had traits but no real personalities. The story is mostly about conflict between the leader of the burlap gang and "9" as they differ in their approach in defeating the evil...whatever they are. The ending concerns the burlap characters and their souls which were given to them by their creator before he fell victim to the fallout of the apocalypse. They lose their souls to the beast or machine or whatever it is and then fight to win them back or something. Its not very engaging anyway.
I watched this movie when i was a kid and i loved it then.It was interesting.
