A remake of the originals was a bad idea, but at least they executed it poorly.
Steve Martin is on the case in _The Pink Panther_. When the coach of France’s national soccer team is murdered and his famous Pink Panther diamond stolen, bumbling police detective Inspector Jacques Clouseau is tasked with solving the case. Co-starring Kevin Kline, Jean Reno, and Emily Mortimer, the cast is pretty good and has a talent for this style of broad comedy. However, it’s the comedy stylings of Steve Martin that have to carry the film, and he does a great job with the slapstick humor. Still, there’s a lot of juvenile stuff that doesn’t really work, and Beyonce Knowles is dead weight. _The Pink Panther_ is a fun film with plenty of laughs, but they don’t always land.
One of those remakes that were not necessary. Less good than the 1963 original, so WHY?
A good film with a simple story, but one that manages to be extremely entertaining. The characters are great and carry the movie with their antics in unexpected situations, drawing plenty of laughs with the funny and unpredictable scenes.
