[Annecy '24] Through a story that takes place in 1981 in the city of Świdnica (Poland), where six carefree young friends decide to take a car to spend a day on the Polish Baltic coast, the country is shown in black and white , compared to the vision of the Western Europe they dream of achieving, which is briefly represented in color. The dilapidated car represents a country in conflict that is about to fall apart, with the protests of the Solidarity union, the deployment of the army in the streets and the proclamation of a Martial Law that lasted two years. But the story transmits youthful joy despite the complex situation, a spirit of resistance against oppression that is shown from optimism instead of despair, although they also aspire to at some point leave a country that they perceive in dull tone.
Fantastic animation style and a great, touching, and humorous story with wonderful narration. It was my second favourite at the short film programme I saw this in. Definitely worth watching if you can find it.
