My favorite war movie ever.
Pretty overdone, over-the-top, oversentinemntal movie to be honest. When the grenades aren't flying over our head and the gunshots don't cross the screen (which are pretty poorly filmed with the camera all over the places, except being steady), a pretty bad family/love story unfolds which is moor gooey than most 90's chickflicks I've seen. It's like the writers tried to replicate a Hollywood blockbuster (SPR probably) and just took every wrong decision we see in the bad blockbusters of the 21th century.
One of the best war movies i have ever seen. Quite a few times it looks like you are watching a Asian version of Saving Private Ryan. The director did an incredible job with the budget he had (12,8 million) to make this movie. The story, the action and struggle the two brothers have to endure to get back home is perfectly filmed. Most war movies show just one side of the story, but this movie shows both the South and North Korean people and the horrors they endure and give to others. It's a shame that most people have never even heard of this movie, and that it didn't at least get a nomination for an Oscar. Because this is a movie that really deserved to win and be recognized by a larger audience than the one it has right now.
Brutal war epic. Outstanding. One of the best war films for me.
