I was apprehensive about such a dramatic story being a comedy as well but in the end I think it worked. Yes, the case in question is brutal and the social ramifications important, so it could be made into a 'serious' drama, however, the film introducing comedy makes the viewer think about the ridiculousness of the situation and the absurdity of people, both prosecutors and wider society, following a law that doesn't lead to a just outcome. The ending is inspiring for those who still believe in humanity.
