This was my "audience vote" pick for the short film event I saw it at. It does a great job at taking you to a specific place, and into a specific community, without feeling forced or artificial. The presenter mentioned that all of the characters are portrayed by people actually living in that area. I felt like at least the two main ones probably have some acting experience, though – just because everyone did a really great job. Most of the time it was like the camera wasn't even there. There are very few cuts, and the camera following the protagonists works really well. Their moving through the neighbourhood and their interactions feel quite natural for the most part. And some of the switches between which character is being followed are very cleverly done, too. This immersive experience already made me pretty sure that it would be my favourite short of the evening halfway in. What really sealed the deal was the ending, [spoiler]everything coming together in a dramatic climax that leaves a lot open, but drives home the tragedy of social disadvantage and injustice, and ends in a final close-up that is heartbreaking in its glumness.[/spoiler]
