An action/war story that remains deadly serious, never drifts into cartoonishness, instead becomes disturbing. Great pacing and acting. Excellent sets with smoke machines and dust being scattered everywhere with every bomb blast. Aspects can be dated, and it shows, and the story is sort of uninteresting and predictable, but it doesn't really detract from the larger experience. All the explosions and squibs are undeniable. Dark but entertaining none-the-less.
Dreadful and boring. Drifted away to check share prices so gave up.
Does it have action? Yes. Blood and gore? Yes. Does it get its message across? Maybe. Is it hard-hitting? it's so much worse; it's D U L L dull. Will I watch it again? Definitely not. So why does it leave me cold? Well because; I didn't feel any sort of attachment to any of the characters and the slow motion bits added nothing. The editing leaves alot to be desired too. The reported alcohol and drug binges of the director were very apparent to me. 'All Quiet On The Western Front’ it ain't.
Strong and disturbing take on WW2 subject with a general who does whatever he deem necessary to receive the highest media in the German army.l
I shouldn't like this film. It's such a bizarre mess with seemingly random editing, writing, accents, acting, cinematography, audio, and more... and yet, at it's close, there was something appealing about the experience. What the hell did I just watch?
