This movie managed to fit 15 minutes worth of movie into a 70 minute runtime. Congrats, you made a movie. It seems that so many of these indie movies feature a road trip because they can't come with with more story or dialog. This movie featured a bunch of wandering around while we waited for the finale. And when the finale came.... woof. _Small, Beautiful Moving Parts_ feels very personal, and if that's the case, one would think there would be better insight. Otherwise this is just a bad movie. This is a very simple story: a pregnant woman goes on a road trip to reconnect with her estranged mother. I don't want to spoil the ending, and I won't, because there's nothing to ruin. There is no depth here. There's no takeaway, no meaning. The journey is not interesting, nor is the destination. There are moments that I think were supposed to be funny; however, I found the characters so annoying that I found nothing comical about any of this. Another odd issue here was the driving theme of how technology shapes the modern age. Could have been interesting, yet it never goes anywhere. I just don't understand why this was made. I can deal with a sad ending, but never a disappointing ending. At barely feature length, this is not worth its runtime. Recommended to no one. I love indie movies, but this one lacks the laughs or emotional weight needed to justify a viewing.
