An improvement after the mildly underwhelming second episode. But I’m not too fond of the way Julie is written. Her edgy teen attitude and nonsensical actions make her seem like a character out of a CW show. Furthermore, it is absurd that the parents would abandon their child with strangers in such a situation. It was interesting how the show contrasts the coping mechanisms of two distinct groups. While the residents of the town attempt to live a regular life while holding out hope for an escape, the colony home residents exemplify the adage, “live each day like it’s your last and nothing else matters.” What created the gap between these two societies will be intriguing to explore. “From” has potential, and I’m looking forward to seeing if the writers can realize that potential without falling back on tired tropes. All I want is for them to maintain a consistent emphasis on the mystery while keeping to the show’s internal logic. ___ **01x03 - Choosing Day: _6.9/10_** *(It Gets the Job Done, Slightly Flawed)*

Good representation of Grace...and, at the other end of the scale, a good representation of narcissism. Oh, and fair depiction of (enabled) Schizophrenia (not much chance of her getting any real help while her brother's shielding her -- hell, they'd prolly just put;er in the Box). How's that old joke go? Just because I imagine the voices doesn't mean they're not out to get me...? No. it's, "Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me." I like the acting.

:sigh: the idea of choosing which side... sure I can buy that. The idea that you have to pick on your first day and it's permanent? That's ridiculous. Also the hippie house is ... silly. In every class on history there's always that one person who wants to ask how moms and dads had sex when everyone was in a family bed and no I don't care that much to see it in action. More white people doing white people things. Jade doesn't buy in. And in the actual choosing moment Julie goes full brat like she's the only one whose ever had their parents go through "that thing". We finally find out that Ethan is a magic child which I suspected when he got impaled. I assume him being half dead got him mixed up with the energy or maybe him being "outside". As a magical child it is his purview to be pestering and annoying for zero reasons. To obsess about ONE person when there's a whole village of people until he gets called away and suddenly the person is interested then he can't wait to get away.I do find it funny that the clear "Older Magic Child" man has everyone so afraid when they clearly need to be aware of the young white girl who did stuff in the first episode" I was also WONDERING how they cleaned up the house so well to have new people in it. Utterly fascinating to see that. After seeing that room the idea that you then have any doubts and still want to complain about everyone taking this too seriously is just wild. It's the whitest thing ever. "Why are you so eager to take any of this at face value Jim?" Um what? Speaking of that ultimate punishment. Why isn't it easier to just kill someone? Why let them get eaten alive? We know from Margo's story they like to drag it out. Why put someone through that? To just sit there knowing you can't do anything? Give him a gun with one bullet to let it be over quick at least.

The show starts quite nicely, but why it seems already to lean in the same direction as The Dome, with people making stupid harsh decision, that no one would ever make in real life... Why did Julie chose the community house? Why doesn't she explain why? And why nobody asks her anything about her choice? Including the family she seems to go along with? I mean wouldn't that be a normal reaction? Also the Box is just an inefficient death sentence, you have to clean an rebuilt it after each use. Why not replace it with a simple banishment? It would also be a less radical sentence, as the convict would have a (very small) chance to hide or defend himself... And finally, why can the monsters/others can break into the box but not the houses? I hope that gets explained later... I really hope those are just some single mistakes and won't become recurrent to the point it ruins the show, just like it did with The Dome and many others...
