had such high hopes for this after how fun the first one was, but wow... what an absolute disaster. It genuinely feels like they just forgot to write a script. I'm not even joking, it's just a bunch of random, flashy scenes glued together with zero logic. Characters teleport from one place to another, things happen for absolutely no reason, and nothing makes sense. It's like they just threw every Nintendo character they had left at the screen hoping we wouldn't notice that there's no actual story. The first movie was simple, sure, but it had heart and felt like a massive love letter to the games. This one is miles away from that. It just feels lazy, like a cheap cash grab trying to ride the hype of the original. Such a huge letdown. If you loved the first one, do yourself a favor and pretend this sequel doesn't exist.
What a fun movie. I did not expect a 2nd instalment of the Mario franchise to be amazing, but this was rather great. So many back stories and a lot of funny moments in general. Well done and integrated with the games, so bonus point for all the nostalgia, even if you have not played every single game.
This is a continuous drip feed of Nintendo references throughout the movie, which is a lot of fun. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s enough to make a good movie. The story is extremely thin leaving the film bouncing from scene to scene just to give you another hit of nostalgia for the games and characters they’re haphazardly slapping on screen. As someone who thought the first film was nothing special but fine, I think this one is a step down in comparison. While I do think this is a bad movie it’s not terrible and there is fun to be had. "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" has reinforced my view that the "Mario" movies are intended solely for children and adult Nintendo fans. That’s because they’re characterized above all by their vibrant colors and the fact that there isn’t a single quiet moment. At the same time, they’re packed with Easter eggs, of which I’ve probably only noticed a tiny fraction. But there’s definitely no good story to be found here. Above all, it lacks character development and a coherent narrative structure. At least the animation style is well done, but ultimately, "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" is the equivalent of stuffing yourself with candy. At first, you feel somewhat satisfied, but in the end, it’s just empty calories.
A very pretty and also a very bad movie. Would make for a great screensaver. If you are younger than around 8 or you are a huge Nintendo fan, you will probably like it. If you are neither, just skip it. No real story here, just a collection of random scenes. There were few nice fights and funny moments, but overall it was just bland. And surprisingly the worst thing was the music. Not it was bad, but it was completely out of place. Imagine watching Star Wars and the whole time just the Imperial march plays. Great song, that just does not fit most of the time. And that is what the music in this movie felt like. Btw. multiple scenes really reminded me of Star Wars. Wonder if this was a coincidence.
