I fear the only way this show knows how to progress a plot and wrap things up is by lobotomizing its characters
I want to like this show because it is an interesting concept, but I just can't seem to get into it. The plot this season felt very cliched and basic, and it just was not engaging at all. The character work and relationships also felt very surface level. I feel like there are so many interesting things they could do, but it ends up following a lot of tropes. It tries to be edgy but never ends up feeling funny. The songs aren't necessarily bad, they have fun tunes, but by the time it is over, you barely remember it. I think that's a microcosm of this show. I watched 8 episodes and can barely remember any of it. I was hoping season 1 was just having some growing pains, but with season 2 which is probably even worse than season 1, I think I am probably not going to bother continuing with the show. It's a shame because I think it could learn from its fellow Amazon animated originals like Invincible and Legend of Vox Machina that the main thing that gives a show staying power is its characters, and a concept can only get you so far if everything else is paper thin.
So much plot holes. Vivziepop had a lot of time since pilot to this?... why heaven even afraid of hell? Sera could just get down and spawn a beam and kill all sinners. No need to worry, people will always die and hell population will be restored. Plus why Lucy cannot harm sinners but his powers can? The hell? I expected that gun will not work on sinners and funny vox reaction. If Lucy have so much power to destroy barrier made by other seraphims and even elders and heavens gate, why he didnt just blast heaven with threats to make them free from his curse? Sure, they might get into fight, but their afraid of powerless sinners and 3 overlords? they would be afraid of Lucy more. Plus why heaven cannot curse vox? if they did this to Lucy, why they cannot make curse on Vox like he could not manipulate others and thats it. Plus other plot hole, vivziepop said earlier that sinners cannot leave pride ring, how they gonna get to heaven? Lucy is more than 4 billion years old. In hell he is thousands of years and viv wanna say he didn't find a way to be free from curse? He is not just some fallen angel, he is concept of freedom and always will be free. By this logic if he cannot harm them directly, he could just manifest two pistols, cowboy outfit and guns will just shoot his energy and thats it, he can kill sinners now. And why he could not teleport from that thing or just break it with powers. Vox could scratch it and Lucy cannot and Vaggie with angel spear?
Amazing season and a huge step up compared to season 1. Almost all loose ends tied up and even better songs than last time. Oh my god the songs... they are soooo fucking good. Vox aura farming is also goated. He changed his status from fraud to real in a single episode and solo.
This show is marketed towards adults as a mature animated series, but it's actually a 5th grade level of humor with "mature" words sprinkled in. Low IQ writing might resonate with a low IQ audience, but I think most adults with a mental age over 15 will not enjoy this. As a litmus test, does this sentence make you laugh? "What the fucking fuck did you just fucking say to me?" If you laughed simply because the word "fuck" is used often, then watch this show. If you require a little more substance and wit to laugh, then don't waste your time on this show.
