Lot of people here are going to whine that this doesn’t feel like Euphoria. Well, guess what, shows evolve, things change, there have literally been deaths in the cast/production, shows cost money, and the story can’t be changed once filming has begun. You can cry on Twitter as much as you want as episodes air, but it’s not going to change the arc. And finally, last season aired literally four years ago. Yes, this comes from Euphoria, but yes, this season has a right to exist on its own and should be judged solely on its proposal, not on what happened in 2022 or 2019. The production values and art direction have literally shifted into a more Western/adult zone, and you can’t demand this season still focus on high school. The graphic sex, violence, and rawness have been transported into the adult lives of the cast, where fairytales about love, power, drugs, and masculinity have real world consequences. What the season is literally saying is: high school a.k.a the best time of our lives, a world without consequences or accountability, is not here anymore. If you paid attention to season one, every character flaw was explained by a family flaw. What was once a group of confused, anxious, love-yearning teenagers is now a bunch of broken adults in the broken world of today’s America. Hence what the season emphasizes again: a generation and its tragic members weren’t made in a vacuum. A broken society, it est: a group of adults making decisions, wasn’t either. This isn’t high school Euphoria. It’s adult Euphoria, and its execution in terms of direction, cinematography, and acting is still among the best in television. It’s going to get more violent and sordid, because yes, a broken, unfixed teenager makes for a broken and more damned adult. If you can’t handle that basic truth about life and about this show, you should skip the whole season.
This is worst than The Idol. Congrats!
The worst episode of this show is always the next one. Watching this is like scrolling through a TikTok feed filled with every possible stereotype. The characters have lost all their depth; Jules, who had the potential for a great storyline, has turned into nothing more than a 'sugar baby' selling herself for money. Rue’s cycle is so tedious, always going in circles with the same mistakes. The other characters have become so weak and boring they aren’t even worth mentioning. I also don't understand Sam Levinson’s obsession with killing so many animals in such crude ways, or why he objectifies and sexualizes women as much as he has in this season. I have nothing against that, provided it makes sense—but here, the only goal is to shock and grab attention. It’s a deep void, much like the entire script up to this point.
Trying to be edgy, but actually it's just dull.
