France, 1815. Jean Valjean, a common thief, is released from prison after having lived a hell in life for 19 years, but a small mistake puts the law again on his trail. Ruthless Inspector Javert pursues him thorough years, driven by a twisted sense of justice, while Valjean reforms himself, thrives and dedicates his life to good deeds. In 1832, while the revolution ravages the streets of Paris, Valjean and Javert cross their paths for the last time.

I saw the movie version of this a few years back when it was originally released & thought it was...fine. But I must say, I really thought this BBC adaptation of the story was really good. Very well written, acted & produced. One I`d recommend most definitely.
I prefer the musical but this was great as well. I've read the book and it was pretty much spot on! (compared to other adaptations).
Not the musical, not the novel, but a good reworking of the story. This 6 episode miniseries runs a little slow but good casting and solid performances give us characters worth investing in, over time. Consistent with BBC period dramas, the costumes and reconstructions are spot on. Consistent with Victor Hugo, the world is dangerous, inhuman and unjust but the arch of the narrative is about redemption. I give this series an 8 (well done) out of 10. [Classic Period Drama]
Super well done. I love that it has the time to really flesh the characters out and give us a better sense of their motivation.
Amazing. I remember seeing the original broadway production in my younger days. This adaptation was well done. Do miss the songs though. Highly recommend it.
